Notice: 2008 Season opening delayed due to needed track improvements, please read:

Fellow racers,

Many of you know that the grooves in the dragstrip surface have been really problematic for the past two seasons. If you have only been racing at the Redding Dragstrip, you may not have known any difference. The grooves make it so that your tires are only making 50% contact with the surface. Thus, a car with a 15” wide drag slick will only have the effective traction of a car with 7.5” slick. That’s why the more high performance cars can’t consistently get good 60 ft. times. More often than not, they go up the track in severe tire spin.

Working over the past two months, we tried getting the rubber build-up off, and then polishing out the grooves. This effort has proven to be unsuccessful. The concrete is old, cracked, and chipped out. There is no other good choice than to replace the 280’ of track surface starting at the water box out.

This will take some time. Excavating the old material, framing and pouring the new concrete, and especially the time it takes to cure the material properly. We expect the needed work to delay the 2008 season by roughly 4 weeks.

Please have patience during this delay. When the new surface is completed, your car will be quicker and safer because your car will hook much better, and with reduced tire spin. Keep checking at this website and the race hotline for updates and the latest information on our opening date. By Kool April Drags or sooner, you will see this, and also some other significant improvements.

Thanks for your patience with this very important matter!
