Who Can Race:
You must be licensed and your car registered and insured. Your car must pass a safety
inspection.
Rules:
You must wear long pants, full shirt and seat belts. Helmets are required if you go faster
than 13.99 seconds. Racing is Heads Up.
VHT now on the track
for Street Legal Drags
Starting August 11th through the final SLD on October 14th, RDS will have the sticky
compounds of VHT and Methanol applied allowing faster cars to hook up better.

Street Legal Drags
| Street Legal Drags is a term coined by the National Hot Rod Association
(NHRA) that defines legal, sanctioned events that take place on hundreds of drag strips
across America each weekend. It is the modern day vehicle to take illegal street racing
off public roadways and onto the safety of the racetrack, just like Wally Parks and fellow
founders of the NHRA did in the 1950’s when they first organized the motorsport. Redding
Drag Strip’s Street Legal Drags program is in full swing, growing rapidly from its
first event in the fall of 2002. No others are more aware of its progress than the Redding
Police Department, and in particular, Officer Ed Ochoa, of the Neighborhood Police Unit.
Office Ochoa was tasked with stopping illegal street racing on Clear Creek Road the
infamous and very dangerous phenomenon that he brought to an end, fortunately, before
there was loss of life. It is becoming the fastest growing segment at the track with
hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators.
Our thanks go to Redding Police Department, Officer Ochoa, and NCDRA organizers, who
operate the track. We’d also like to thank the individuals and organizations that
supported the program with financial contributions and the racers wise enough to use it.
